What is perioscope therapy?
A tiny camera that lets the hygienist see under the gumline while cleaning below it. Most cleanings below the gumline are done by feel. This one is done by sight.
Does it hurt?
The area is numbed with local anesthetic, the same as a deep cleaning. Afterward there may be some gum tenderness and some sensitivity to hot and cold.
How long does it take?
From about an hour for a few teeth to about four and a half hours for the full mouth, sometimes split across two visits.
Which patients are good candidates?
Patients who continue to have bleeding on probing, aren't healing from traditional scaling and root planing, have peri-implantitis or a perio abscess, want to save a tooth, prefer a non-surgical approach to osseous or laser therapy, or can't afford or get to a periodontist.
Who is it not right for?
People who can't comfortably sit for two or more hours, and people who need medical clearance from another doctor first — after recent surgery, a joint replacement, heart procedures, cancer treatment, or if blood pressure isn't well controlled. Your dentist will go through this with you.
Do I need to buy any equipment?
No. Perio On Point brings the perioscope, the ultrasonic unit, and instruments. You provide the operatory, your anesthetic, autoclave access, and paper products.
Does my hygienist need to be involved?
No — Perio On Point works as an outside contracted hygienist under your supervision. Your team's involvement is scheduling the room and confirming clearance is documented.
Can you treat a patient who has already had SRP?
Yes. When a patient presents with persistent bleeding and no healing from previous scaling and root planing, perioscope therapy is a strong option to consider before moving to more aggressive periodontal therapy, including osseous surgery or laser therapy.
What happens if the patient can't tolerate the full appointment?
Perio On Point bills out the amount of treatment completed, and works with your schedule to fit the patient's needs and complete treatment at a follow-up visit.

Your dental practice sets the fee and handles billing. Perio On Point is paid by the practice, not by you. Ask your dental office for their fee and whether your plan covers any part of it.
